Ian Lloyd Sherwood was born July 17th, 1974 - as a proud third generation Sherwood; born in Unity, Saskatchewan. George and Terry Lynn raised their boys on their generational farm. Ian grew up making memories alongside his big brother Travis. As farm boys, Travis honoured the western lifestyle as their parents did, where Ian was the furthest from traditional; but he was always his mama’s boy and looked up to his Dad. He grew up loving dirt biking, played hockey, sledding, his horse Bud, and time with his friends.
He fixed up his Warlock before he was 16, so it was ready as soon as he got his license. He was known for that big, loud, black truck. With that, in 1992 Ian asked Lisa out with a white teddy bear and a Walkman found in her school locker; at 16 and 17 years of age they knew it was going to be a lifetime of love. Ian proposed in 1995 where they then bought their first home. Tierra Trucking was started in 1996 and on July 4th, 1998, Ian and Lisa got married in Unity, Saskatchewan with all their friends and family present.
Two years later they had their first child, Caprice Sky on January 22, 2000. Four years later, Tristin Rein was born September 25th, 2004. They chose to raise their family in their hometown and built their forever home in 2009. Ian loved his family. Everything in his life revolved around his loved ones. In 2022, Caprice and her husband Dylan welcomed Ian’s first grandchild, Axel Rein. Ian’s world was complete after he became an Opa.
His goal was to go above and beyond to create memories that would last a lifetime. Countless camping trips where you knew you would be getting the best bush pie on the biggest fire. Or enjoy an entire day on the boat; he was known for pulling everyone for all water sports, dangerous tubing experiences, but hardly any fishing. He would plan the most spontaneous adventures; where mostly everything would go wrong, but it made for the absolute, best memories. Ian loved motorsports; where he shared his passion of sledding, dirt biking, and quadding with his friends and family. Ian loved keeping up with his kids. Showing Caprice all the non-girly things, but most of all being her first love as daddy’s little girl. He admired Tristin’s personability, for being so carefree and big-hearted; not realizing he is just like his dad. Ian taught Tristin and Lisa to love the open road on their bike rides. And shared his love of music with both his kids, where they went to countless concerts together and always were sharing songs with each other. His mom and him always shared the next best movie to watch with one another. Ian made sure all who met him knew Ski Doo, Dodge, and Milwaukee were the best.
Ian was the most selfless man. Everyone who knew him knows, he would do anything for anyone. There isn’t anything Ian wouldn’t do to help someone else. We always heard from others, Ian made everyone feel they mattered in his life. There was never a moment when he wasn’t bringing laughter and light to our lives. In Ian’s last days he said, “for every time I saw a shooting star, I’d wish that everyone would be happy and healthy; and for me I would want nothing.” These words showed, Ian believed his purpose in life was to provide, protect, and love all who knew him.
We all know that Ian was a hard worker and an extraordinary provider for his family, but regardless of the countless hours he worked, in his final days he shared with us that he had no regrets. On behalf of our family, we ask that when you look up and see a shooting star; please remember Ian and his wish in life.
